New Years Wishes

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 29, 2008, 8:56 PM A group of us are heading down to Melbourne for the Sensations White party. A very very big annual dance party, that this year graces the Telstra dome in Melbourne.
We'll be counting down the new years with 40,000 other people, and I feel very blessed to be a part of such a spectacle.

Because I love new years.

I once joined a NYE party at a friends place, and sadly ended up seeing the new year in...alone, on the balcony, watching fireworks launch in the distance, waving my little glow-stick and my hopes to usher in the new year.
Not because I left or due to any unforeseen travesty, but because I was the only one who cared.

And caring about the new year, at least to me, is one of the most important nights one can experience.
Because New Years Eve is not about fireworks, alcohol or a party.
It's about hope.

It is the one definitive day of the year where 80% of the people in the world can get together for 10 seconds of their lives and believe that it will get better. That it will be a brighter tomorrow.
For ten seconds hundreds of people around me and probably millions across the world all watch the tick-tick-tick of the clock, taking in every second of the countdown. A countdown to a celebration, not of this year, but of the next.

If ever I was to choose one holiday per year, New Years would be it.

So take your lover or friends in hand, feel the presence of your family, friends, pets, or even just the solitary glow of your television. And count down into the collective hope that tomorrow will be the brightest day, a new beginning, a clean slate to live your life to the fullest.

And I wish...no, hope, for the best and brightest in your new tomorrow.

ACTfur ep 2 delay - hardware issues

Morning guys.

Uh...for any of you eagerly awaiting the podcast of ep2 there's going to be an extended delay.
A virus or something knocked out my NTLDR file, so I'm running a disk check on both my drives.
Needless to say, running it in BIOS is very...very...slow.
As of this morning it was at 68% one one drive, and had been running for 12 hours.

So no new artworks (uploaded, not draw ;D) for a little while sorry

EP2, Nuclear Fursonas

As raised by Kell last week, we'll be having a Post Apocalyptic theme. So get your gas-masks and Anti-mutagens ready! It's radiation time!
We'll be talking about the Furry Census, put together by Kyle Evans, showing the changes in the fandom since 1993. Our main dicussion will be Fursonas (Dun Dun Dunnn), the why and the how we come up with them.

We'll be talking to Mechafox from Melbourne, and hopefully either DarthMeow (our Server host) or Trinexxx (Headline DJ for MidFur!)

Con planning and appology

Evening guys.
Been a while since I used Livejournal, I'm thinking I should really get on it more since a lot of my friends are on here, as well as the fandom.

First up I wanna make an appology to Oz. Back in a podcast I was a part of called TakingUpSpace we apparently insulted him directly.
I don't remember doing this or even why we would, but he had a few people show him proof.
All I can really give is a heartfelt apology. Whatever the reason we\I don't ever have the right to insult someone in a public forum like a podcast and I should be ashamed for ever doing so.
So to Oz, I'm very sorry for whatever I said, I hope we can talk again in the future as friends.

MIDFUR IS COMING UP:

At the moment the MidFur 10 convention is coming up in...oh 6 and a half weeks. I'm very very excited about it, but equally nervous. It's our first convention and it's been a very bumpy road. I came onto the comittee late in the planning process, the entire reason I accepted was because I really really want this to be an amazing event for everyone.
It's gonna be toucgh and the fandom will have to be a little relaxed with us. Personally we're lucky to even have a venue for the location and price we did. Almost all the halls in melbourne were booked about 11months in advance. So propr to the Victoria Hotel for hosting us this year.

At the moment we're finalizing events, equipment and hopefulle (poke poke) getting the last registrations in. The cut off is in about 20 days, after that it's all on the day rego. (DunDun DUNN).
Last year was a hell of an event, almost 130 furs turned up to the friday night dinner. This year we're heading towards our 180th registration.
I've heard many a sigh from furs wallets over the cost of MFX, admitedly the $65 registration fee is a little high for a convention, but it's our first year and we're trying our best.

But there is good news. The organization for the con book will be wrapping up in the next few weeks, so I'm trying to get an art submission in before the cut off. Our guests and special guests are booked, the panels are almost finalised, the events are leveling out and the team and voulenteers are working really hard to get it all together.
So wish us luck!

ACTFUR ON AIR STARTS

We had our first show for ACTFUR on air. A furry talkshow I'm a part of With Kell Bengal and my lovely girlfriend Jeneara. I wanted to get back into Podcasting, Jeneara and Kell were keen on the idea, and we wanted to help the community get to know eachother a bit better before the next meet\con.
So ACTfur on air was born out of the firey ashes of the internets!

We're actually streaming LIVE over the Radio Furture network, which is awesome. I'll set up an ACTfur #IRC channel for next show, and we'll be interviewing 2 more furs form the local community. If you wanna be on the show send us an e-mail -> ACTfur@live.com.

Return from RADfur, Adelaide, OCt 3rd-5th

Well...I'm back in the land of cold wind and politics, Jeneara and I just returned to Canberra from what ended up being both an amazing and relaxing trip to Adelaide for it's first official furmeet, RADfur.
We stayed up late, got hardly any sleep, and ended up eating very badly.But was it relaxing? Surprisingly...yes.

Having been to and helped run meets before, usually there is far too much going on in far too short a time to actually enjoy yourself and the company of new friends. The lovely thing that happened at RADfur was that the events were far more free-form, and there were enough gaps in-between events to both enjoy yourself and get to the destination. The relaxed feeling may have been a result of us all getting utterly Rat-arsed at the house party Saturday night, but it was just relaxed and Fun and enjoyable. Organized by Fiery Dragon of Adelaide (who also put the website together, clap clap for the dragon) I had a brilliantly laid-back blast meeting our southern fandom.
So what happened? We flew down to Adelaide, Friday night was dinner and greets at the Pancake Kitchen, Saturday was a wander around Rundell open-air mall, and a house party at Mea's. Sunday was supposed to be a meet at the Pancake house for breakfast but the previous house party transformed Sunday into our recovery day. Then fly home and try and get sleep before the next work day.

FRIDAY

I like flying.
Flying is fun, quick and not really that much more expensive compared to driving. So despite a small delay giving us time to bust out with some RPG games on the PSP\DS at Melbourne airport during a connecting flight delay, it was all good fun. Arriving in Adelaide we were greeted by a contingent of about 15 furs! Having a welcome like that just for the two of us was really really nice. 15 Hugs and hellos later we headed to the nearby IKEA store for food (yes IKEA sells food 'Checkout style'),...at least it looked like food. They suggested I get the 'Meatballs with Beige'. Think breakey nasty cheap American meatballs covered in a thick gravy-esque sauce laced with cocaine and colored like an old-school IBM PC.
It was delicious...

So after feeding our faces, getting lost amongst the innovative and oft-times downright stupid home-wares we headed on over to Arctic|Pete's (also Firey & Trinnexx) house to unload and chill. They recently moved in and I gotta say it'll be a really nice pad once it's lived in for a while. We hung out, then got ready and went out to the Adelaide Pancake House for Dinner. The Pancake House is a Pancake Kitchen that has been continuously open since 1961. That's open for 47 years solid 24 hours a day without closing. And the pancakes, steak and drinks they made are very VERY good. Highly recommended by the secretary of Kradens' stomach.

Meeting everyone was fantastic. Some furs I've met before at earlier meets and last years Midfur. But Daymn are the Adelaidians friendly. There was almost no malice, arguments or stress between them, it was great. I was especially happy to see Pete, Firey and Kaz again this meet, elated to meet Fala too having worked with him electronically on MFX for a while now. But I was also excitedly looking forward to meeting Kelthoran, since he used to do a segment on tour old podcast. And yes, for those who used to listen to the podcast he is as charming as his voice depicts.
SATURDAY

Saturday was comprised of running around setting up the AUSFA (Australian Furry Association) details, and enjoying the sights and sounds of the Adelaide CBD. Pete treated me to one of the most delicious caffinated beverages I've ever had the pleasure of swallowing. Somewhat like the love child between a Cuppachino-Latte and a Hazlenut Brule'. It was around that point that I realised that knowing your city is a great way to indulge your friends in new tastes and flavors. Something my city lacks much variance or flare in. Apart from the now semi-famous Megashake race, Canberra has very little that you'd count as unique cuisine, as engaging as it is there's not much you couldn't get elsewhere. Once our business in the city was complete we ended up heading out to Glenelg, a busy back and forth beach side suburb dotted with street stores and cafes'.

Take away the beach and larger buildings and it oddly felt like home. Our destination was actually a beach side games arcade, adequately named 'the Beach house'. Jeneara and I spent at least sixty dollars bouncing back and forth between random game machines and Iceball (Skiball for the Americas). I learned two things. One, that after collecting tickets from games a $2 Frisbee that in reality cost you $25 is a very rewarding experience. And two, Jeneara kicks ass at Skiball, she must have won at least 200 of our tickets on that game.

The afternoon wound down into a balmy warm evening as we headed over to Mea's place for the RADfur house party. A Mid-suburban house easily found by the blaring music and emergency light strapped to the roof of a car, casting it's rotating orange beam around the front yard (Surprisingly, the neighbours didn't complain).
We all got (to put it lightly) mildly inebriated. Kelthoran brought along two gorgeous bottles of red from his family's cellar, both of which we finished throughout the evening amongst other beverages and laughter. Despite the alcohol nobody became angry, stressed or confused. The overall feeling of companionship and frivoloity was a ripe and shiney fruit, spilling it's juice into the mindset of the evening and brining us to a enjoyable high.

SUNDAY

Oh my....
Some perhaps...drank too much. And the stories in the morning were entertaining when we actually arose to greet the sunshine. The plan for the day was to head on out to the Pancake kitchen and enjoy the city again...we decided this was a bad idea and the entire group spent the next hour or so deciding whether to get breakfast or stay sitting on the couch staring at the wall.
The luckier walkers (myself included), wandered around the house enjoying the company from the chatty guests to the groaning hosts. I ended up drawing one of my first finished traditional color pieces for well over a year, and felt a warm glow of pride in actually holding a traditional drawing in my hands. The group drifted slowly from this dens around the city over to Pete's place (unofficially known as "Tha Vag" for reasons you'll know if you see it). Possibly from the mornings pictures, or the repeated prodding from Jeneara. I spent the rest of the day periodically (and sometimes continuously) doing drawings for the local furs. They're some of my best works and I'm honored to have been able to hand them out to each fur that let me pump some creativity into their character. It's this sort of environment that really lends to inspiration, and I highly recommend it. You get a huge boost to your creativity, and they receive a gift of their character. I must have drawn well up to 10:30 at night. Because by the time I finished we were thinking of going to bed. That was until we realized the pizzas has not yet arrived.
And we were hungry.
Om nom nom nom nom....

MONDAY
With Jeneara and I heading out to the airport for a flight home later in the day, I decided to make good on my promise of breakfast and cook the bacon+eggs waiting in the fridge.

The Kraden-manz Bacon-cooking tip MK-I!!!

Here's a tip for Bacon. Cut off most of the sringey fat at the end of the strips, and put that in your heated pan first. That way the bacon will fry in it's own fats instead of you having to add oils. Works a treat and tastes great.

So with breakfast cooked, and a short time watching 'Interview with a Vampire' in "Super-eye-strain-projector-plus-too-much-lighting-o-vision" we caught a lift to the airport and a flight home.
I'm tired, but very happy.

I'm mostly amazed by the friendliness and laid-back nature of the Adelaidian furmeet. It was more-so a holiday with less sleep than the chaotic buzz of a regular meet. Having been to Manifest the weekend beforehand it was, perhaps, the contrast of the century, but going from Anime-con to a small-local meet was pleasant none-the less.
Thank you so much to Arctic|Pete, Firey and Trinnexx for giving us a roof over our heads. And to Mea for the use of her house. Oh God, Oh god I hope we didn't break anything or re-paint the walls in a technicolor-rainbow (slang name for throwing up btw). The people were great, the weather was great, and I didn't come home too broke either.

Happiness

I was sitting here earlier today thinking about what our podcast means to me. I decided that I wanted a voice, and to give others voice (while having a little bit of fun). So to have a little topic of discussion I thought I'd talk about

Happiness..

    That ever elusive element that we all seem to vainly strive for, an attempt to give our existence a sense of wholeness, that our lives once lived have been good? Whether happiness on a more spiritual level, the knowing you have done well for your common man, or more so happiness of self gratification, the act of doing what you wanted whilst ignoring the consequences? Happiness is perhaps the sense of completeness in our lives, something to be strived for from second to second and year to year.

    And yet our society infringes upon this by telling us that happiness is something we should feel guilty for, that self gratification is the means by which we become cold, bloated and ultimately self-absorbed individuals. That we deprive ourselves of that which we enjoy in an attempt to better clean our spiritual mantelpiece, a strike against an instinctive feeling taught to us that we should feel guilty for enjoying simple pleasures? Food, is possible one of the greatest sensory experiences one can have apart from love making and new feelings in new places, like a tropical breeze or the touch of cool spring water newly melted from the frozen mountaintops. Food is something that can be greatly enjoyed, but becomes the best example I can present in how we deprive ourselves of that which makes up happy.

    If one enjoys eating, our society tells us that we will become fat, depressed and unwell. But instead of eating good food and becoming fat, healthy and happy, we believe what society preaches and reject food because it is enjoyable. However because you enjoy it, it becomes a comfort and you will eat anyway. Because you force yourself not to enjoy food you feel guilty for eating and are, again, compelled to find comfort in that which you punish yourself for doing. Much like a rolling tide we are slowly sucked further under the waves, gradually making it harder and harder to reach the surface. In the end you continuously do something for the enjoyment but force yourself to float a few inches above the surface of that very same enjoyment, and in doing so fail to realize that you are already downing deep in the depths of the problem.

    That which we enjoy, which makes us happy is something that should be embraced. If you constantly push happiness away you will only ever fail to appreciate that which makes you smile. If one is overworked, instead of relishing in the completion of a small task we depress over the possible tasks of the future. If one is lonely, instead of relishing the few friendships they do have we depress over the empty spaces and broken relationships. Our society is steadily focusing more and more on the minimalistic, the bare and ordered life. Devices are getting smaller, experiences quicker and more passionate, time to enjoy them shorter and the holes in our souls more and more sparse, and empty.

    Take a moment to enjoy that which makes you happy. Stop feeling guilty over the little sparks of happiness that flicker through your life and actually take the time to experience them. If you stop denying that which makes you happy youll crave it less, the less you crave it the less youll eat that next biscuit or the less youll cling savagely to that small friendship. And because you actually took the time to enjoy your small happiness the less youll feel guilty for being just thathappy.

    Life should not be measured by the experiences that we have rejected during our years on this small rock in space, but by the small experiences that we could have and share that made us smile and breath in the world. Sometimes it is important to deprive ones self of something to better live and share our lives, but there will always be something just as good further around the corner.

Knowing when to let yourself be happy will be the greatest gift you could ever give yourself

Taking Up Space episode 1 released for your listening pleasure. Any inadvertant brain explosions are purely fault of your speakers and not the content of our show *cough*.
I'd firstly like to say that anything in the show that may be offensive is merely us taking the fun, we even tried to be fair and smackdown as many demographics throughout the show as possible, so if we missed you forgive us I'll come up with something witty next week.

Oh Snap Dawg!

Seems Taking Up Space will have to be postponed. I'll need to re-think our method of recording as well as programs. My computer is deciding to ass itself this week with...what was it 11 errors, 2 lockups, 4 program crashes and SEVEN system failures.

I'll keep you posted guys but we might keep this recording as show '0' and put a better one together next week.

SYDNEY LAST WEEK -

I went to Sydney with my wonderful girlfriend Emily for two days and it was beau-u-u-tiful. Why was it beautiful? Well not only did I get some very nice leather Italian imported boots on the cheap, not only did I get some other cool junk like massage bars and glow in the dark soap. But get this..ok...
We got Emily a CORSETT!!
!~OH HELLS YEAH!!! It's gonna come in the mail. In about 2 weeks. And she's gonna wear it! and, and.. and I'm gonna melt like a horny popsicle under the sexy sun that is EMILY...IN A CORSETT!!
BAM!!

~ TAKING UP SPACE PODCAST ~

Remember how I said I was going to take over the interwebs like an excitable dictator with a radio show? Well...it's going ahead now.
We bought a good USB microphone (cause I can't afford studio mic's and boards yet) and threw together some preliminary recordings to test it out.
Natalie aka ~Almosee, Emily aka ~Bairn, Neil aka ~Ashura and myself aka ~Kraden will be babbling to you about everything from furs, to movie, to games to what we ate for dinner last week. And it's gonna ROCK some mo-frikkin Kazba...with bagels.

FurJam in december will hopefully ahve over 100 patrons as it had about 75 of us last year (couldn't go). My last furjam had about 20-30 of us when ~Carnival and ~Vamore came up for three days (Damn that was a bitching week, you guys rocked!)
Also MidFur in december is coming up too. YEAH! Kraden is the superhappyfinetime!

I am a reasonably regular member of SecondLife now because I use it to ramp up my art like a tubo charged TurkeyCannon! Bu-KAw- Mo-fukker!
SL is good for 5 things.
1~ Already has designs on the characters
2~ Already has clothing
3~ Already have proportions and designs
4~ It has POSES
5~ It has Multi Camera Angles

So not only is it a wikkid place to hang out but it's like having your own furry\human life drawing class beamed to you headmeats from the interwebs. Copy what you see on the screen in your own style and BAM. Awesome art IN MAH PANTS!!!

Also go to catch up with ~GolfFox-the-fox, ~DodgeFoxx and others old friends in SL cause I don't MSN much anymore atall.

Ehhh...cetra!

I return unto thee like a swift wind scented with tacos and cheese. Let my mexican flavourings make thy stomachs grumble with hunger and yearning.
You know you want it and Nachos are -Damn- good too.

After a particularly memorable computer crap-up, incvolving a bios update and the resulting ten second reset time every time it booted up, I repaired it by hooking it up to my brothers old box like some twisted form of life support. See the horror!

Ahh fun.

However. Such a fateful turn of events allowed me to swap my MASSIVE PHALIC of a Hdd into my computer and my teeny 80gig into my removable casing.
So now I'm bigger and faster and...sexier...*growl*

Forgive the lame and cliche' title, sometimes I cannot help myself.

Finally slapped my lazy ass into gear and placed another little niche aside to reside in. Good to see some of my friends are here and that I'll finally be able to keep up with you since my ability to see you guys in RL is getting less and less available.

Also I'll be whacking up a custom style because I spent time learning CSS and I'll DAMN well use it if I can. SO blah! Once it's up I can do some of your pages too if you like. Might be a few decades knowing my ability to do stuff on time.

In the mean time I'll be attempting to at least post something interesting each week, whether it's a link to something good, a rant about something bad or just my random ramblings from me weekly reminiscences.
Try saying that ten times fast ;)
